HOW TO USE MISOCLEAR FOR MEDICAL ABORTION

Misoclear is a safe and effective treatment for early medical abortion when used according to instructions.

Before starting the treatment you should:

  • Read through all of these step-by-step instructions carefully so that you know when not to take Misoclear.
  • Read our frequently asked questions and advice on the side effects of Misoclear.
  • Make a note of your nearest medical facility and how to get there. Serious complications are rare, but you should be prepared in case you do need to seek medical attention quickly.
  • Make sure you are comfortable and have time for the process to begin.

Step 1

Place 4 tablets of misoprostol under the tongue and allow to dissolve for 30 minutes. Swallow what is left in your mouth with water. Wait 3 hours.

The misoprostol can also be placed in the vagina. However, the pills dissolve faster under the tongue.

Step 2

After 3 hours, place another 4 tablets of misoprostol under the tongue or in the vagina.

If you placed the tablets under the tongue, allow them to dissolve for 30 minutes, and then swallow what is left in your mouth with water. Wait another 3 hours.

Step 3

This step should only be followed if the pregnancy has not passed already.

After another 3 hours (only if the pregnancy has not been expelled), place the final 4 tablets of misoprostol under the tongue or in the vagina.

If you placed the tablets under the tongue, allow them to dissolve for 30 minutes, and then swallow what is left in your mouth with water.

The medical abortion should now be complete.

What to expect after taking Misoclear

Bleeding and cramping generally begins within 3-4 hours of using misoprostol, but can begin as quickly as 30 minutes following the first step.

You can expect moderate to heavy bleeding with passage of clots. It’s normal to have some bleeding and spotting for several weeks after your abortion.

You may have cramping on and off for 1 or 2 more days. You may also get other side effects such as chills, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

Bleeding and cramps are a sign the abortion is working, and this will usually lessen once the pregnancy tissue has passed.
